Helping out at school is a great way to get involved in your child’s education as well as get to know the staff and other parents and carers.
Research shows that children benefit when their parents or carers are actively involved in their education and school life.
You can help by:
- listening to children read in the classroom
- volunteering on sports days
- helping supervise excursions
- getting involved in fundraising activities
- joining school committees.
Volunteers
All volunteers (including canteen helpers) are required to apply for a Working With Children Check (WWCC) as from 15th June, 2013 (www.newcheck.kids.nsw.gov.au) which is valid for 5 years. The School WHS Management Plan also requires volunteers, once they have their WWCC number, to attend an Induction Workshop that will explain safety issues and guidelines. The induction must be completed each year and workshops will be held at the beginning of the year - days and times will be advertised in the newsletter.
