Personal development, health and physical education

Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for between 1.5 and 2.5 hours per week in Kindergarten to Year 6.

PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.

Weekly sport

  • A sporting program is provided for every child K – 6 on Friday.
  • Daily P.E. and physical fitness sessions are held for all classes.

Athletics

The Primary Athletics Carnival is held offsite at Maitland Sports' Ground usually in Term 2. Children from 8 years and up represent the school at the local Zone Carnival. Stage 1 children participate in a separate carnival held at school in June.

Swimming

A school Swimming Carnival is held each year in Term 1. This is only for children 8 years and over.

An intensive swimming course of two weeks duration for students in Years 2-6 is held in Term 4. This caters for poor swimmers as well as encouraging improvement in children who can already swim.

P.S.S.A.

Public students participate in a variety of P.S.S.A. Knockout competitions, eg. Cricket, Soccer, Rugby League, Netball, Tennis etc. throughout the year.
